Hey! So how does a nice girl like me end up as a State Trooper and then a personal trainer?
I have always been interested in sports and training. I was a Division I basketball player for Illinois State University. I was fortunate enough to earn a scholarship; which I was so grateful for. Right after college, I was hired by the Illinois State Police as a State Trooper. It was truly my dream job at that time in my life!
I worked the Tollways and expressways in and around Chicago. (Yes, I have really good stories!). As a State Trooper, I became a certified law enforcement fitness specialist through the Cooper Aerobics Institute in Dallas, TX.
But, there is a little detour in my story: You may think that I have been fit and lean my whole life. Not exactly. I had a period of time when I worked in an investigative unit when I gained 35 pounds within about 4 months. I was heavier than I had been in the ninth month of my pregnancy! I did a lot of sitting on surveillance assignments.
I drank gallons of diet coke and I lived on fast food and Hershey’s kisses. I knew I had been gaining weight but I did what a lot of people do; I denied the real truth. My clothes didn’t fit…I huffed and puffed when I walked up stairs…my face and body looked bloated…my family was concerned and I was certainly not a good role model for my young son.
I got on the scale one morning and literally cried for 30 minutes. I could not believe I let myself get so far off the rails. I had no idea where to start, so I decided to do one thing at a time. I stopped drinking Diet Coke first. Then, I slowly started to read recipe books and learned to cook a lot more at home. I reduced my caloric intake over time. Finally, I started to exercise. The weight did come off, thankfully.

The lessons I learned can help others; thus, Hauk Fitness and Train Like A Trooper Boot Camp was born!
I love sharing workouts, recipes and stories with my members. I have found my dream job once again.
It would be my honor to sit down with you and listen. Our specialty is getting people back on track for health, fitness, weight loss and clean eating. It’s never too late! Promise!
